The wild beauty of southern Harz

Vast beech grove forests, long mountain ranges, soft hills, clear creeks, wide meadows: southern Harz is a real beauty already from above. Below the surface another world stretches out: beneath the gypsum karst crystal clear lakes, hidden water courses and unexpectedly huge caves open up. Here, a unique landscape has developed which today is protected by the biosphere reserve “Southern Harz Karst Landscape”.

On guided hikes you will see grand heathlands and age-old caves, discover wild orchids, bats, fire salamanders and lots more. And if you should really have seen everything in southern Harz – upper Harz and the countryside of Thuringia could be reached by car in less than 1 hour.
