In the green heart of Germany

Gentle hill landscapes, deep deciduous forests and picturesque valleys give southern Harz its distinction. Here, half-way between the majestic rocks of upper Harz and the high ridge of the Kyffhauser mountains, the town of Stolberg is located with its special frame work charm. FreiWerk waits for you at the southern edge of the city, on Thyra height. What seems to be far away is surprisingly nearby - the new highway A38 (cross-linking the A7 and the A9) guides you directly to the Harz outland and the rest of the way is a relaxing drive.

Once arrived, you have a choice: for excursions by feet you will find a huge network of hiking trails and by car you will reach many touristic highlights in Harz and northern Thuringia in less than 1 hour. We are looking forward to welcoming you!

Arriving from the West, the South, the East, or the Northeast of Germany?

Leave the A38 at exit No. 13 Berga/Stolberg and drive towards Berga. At the traffic light, turn right towards Rottleberode. There, follow the main street through the village and where the through street makes a left turn, you go straight towards Stolberg. After entering Stolberg, make a sharp right at the Stolberg train station onto Thyrahöhe and follow the signs towards FreiWerk.

Arriving from the Northwest?

If you are arriving from Hamburg, Bremen, or Hannover the best way is to follow A7 and A2 until Braunschweig-Nord. From there, take A391 and A395 towards Wolfenbüttel and Bad Harzburg. At the interchange (Dreieck) Vienenburg, follow the B6N direction of Wernigerode and Blankenburg. From here, your final leg goes straight through the picturesque Harz landscape.

At the exit Blankenburg-Zentrum change to B81 direction of Hasselfelde, where you make a right at the traffic light onto B242 towards Harzgerode/Stiege. Continue through Stiege and after approx. five kilometers make a right towards Breitenstein/Stolberg. Two kilometers after Breitenstein, make a right to arrive at Stolberg just a few minutes later. In Stolberg, follow the main street through the village (direction Rottleberode/Berga). In front of the train station Stolberg, make a left onto Thyrahöhe where you can follow the signs towards FreiWerk.
